A double-bonded aromatic hydrocarbon  arranged in a ring structure. Benzene is a known carcinogen. Outdoor exposures frequently arise from vehicle exhaust, hazardous waste sites, and industrial processes. Indoor exposures arise from household products including glues, paints, and detergents (CDC 2011).
